Tips for Travellers to Hawaii
Most tourists who are headed for Hawaii think of the state as a beach vacation, with miles of sand and amazing views of the sea. However, these are only a small fraction of what the Hawaiian islands have to offer. The local culture in Hawaii is always a pleasant surprise to travelers, and Hawaiian hospitality is well known across the world. However, to make your trip to Hawaii an enjoyable one, there are some tips every traveler should know.
Vacation spots like Universal Studios, Six Flags theme parks, and Disney World are great for younger children. There are cool things to see and fun things to do all day long! However, these vacation sites are rarely relaxing for the grownups on the trip. There are often large crowds, and while there are always new attractions to see, there are also long lines to see them. By the time the late afternoon rolls around, a trip to one of these places with younger children can be a grueling march.
If relaxation is what you have in mind, Hawaii may be a much more suitable destination than the family theme parks. Hawaii is not a destination that caters solely to children; instead, Hawaii offers a wide range of activities for the whole family, and every island has a different set of choices.
Children will enjoy Hawaii more once they are ten years old or higher. Most of the activities for children in Hawaii are most suited to older children. Snorkeling, swimming in deeper waters, even visiting such historical sites as Pearl Harbor are better for children who have reached a certain level of independence, and a certain sense of history.
You will not need any formal clothing in Hawaii. Locals usually wear loose, flowing clothes with an emphasis on casual comfort. The climate varies, but the emphasis on a loose fashion style is suitable throughout the islands.
You may be headed to Hawaii to take advantage of the lush golf courses.
The black lava that surrounds the green fairways on many of Hawaii’s golf courses gives a contrast that is memorable to any golfer, especially on the big island. Mauna Lani is one of the most popular golf resorts, with two windy courses that will make you be accurate. Mauna Kea is also popular – best known for its designer, Robert Trent Jones, Sr. Hapuna is an attractive, challenging course as well. The Waikoloa Golf Club has a unique arrangement of lava flows and petroglyph fields surrounding the fairways and greens.
While some vacation destinations have a wide range of temperatures, depending on the time of year when you visit, Hawaii usually has a high in the 80s and a low in the 60s or 70s all year round. However, the sun can be very bright, and you should carry sunscreen with you at all times. Unless you come in the rainy season, between September and April, you should not spend too much time grounded by weather.
When it does rain, it does not usually rain for more than an hour or so. Sometimes, however, typhoons, windstorms, or even tsunamis can hit the islands. There is a system of sirens throughout the island that warn the residents of these dangerous conditions, and television and radio stations also broadcast warnings. If you hear one of these warnings, heed it!
